AP World History: Websites

Using Websites for Research

Websites can be reliable information sources, but you must be sure that they were created by credible authors. For every website, consider:

  • currency
  • authorship
  • purpose
  • objectivity
  • writing style

To save time, use the recommended websites on this guide to research your country.  Each website has been approved by your teacher and librarian.

Search Tip: Google Limiters

Google

If you use Google to find sources, make sure your information comes from institutions that are more likely to produce reliable information. Limit your searches by entering one of these phrases in front of your search terms:

  • site:.gov --> to find only sources from U.S. government websites
  • site:.edu --> to find only sources from educational or research institutions. Be careful not to use student work!
  • site:.org --> to find only sources from organizations, such as non-profits or NGO's

EXAMPLE:

If you were looking for information about the Han Dynasty from educational institutions, you would type the following in Google:

site:.edu Han Dynasty
