Finding Images with Usage Rights

Just like with text information, it is important to use images that you find from trusted websites and databases. We suggest you use the databases and websites listed on this LibGuide to find authoritative images.

If you use Google Images, you need to make sure that your image is NOT from a blog or non-expert website. It is also best if you select images that have been labeled for reuse so that you are not using images without permission. To do this:

  1. Do a Google IMAGE search
  2. Click on TOOLS
  3. Click on USAGE RIGHTS
  4. Click on CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSES

Creating captions for your images

All images should have a caption in the following format:

Images from the web

Author."Title." Website Name.Web

Images from a database

Author."Title."Database Name.Web

Tips for creating captions:

  • Titles must be hyperlinked to the original source.
  • Fill in the information in red from the original source.
  • If there is no author, then skip it.
  • Titles can be shortened or simple descriptions if they are not provided.
